Transmedia Commons is a space to explore how the media landscape has changed, but more importantly it is a space where storytelling transforms into media we live in.
Transmedia is not just telling a story, it’s a collaborative storytelling experience.
If you’ve read Jane Austin fan-fiction you are experiencing transmedia.
If you have made a YouTube video acting out Star Wars scenes and shared them with your friends, you’ve created transmedia.
The reality of new media storytelling is that it is no longer self-contained; we are able to create ever more engaging stories and entertainment experiences. Expanded access to the Internet means we can create and share without a lot of restrictions and the media industry is shifting to an open model of story collaboration between creators and consumers.
So now that we have this new mode of experiencing stories, what more can we do?
We can use the model of transmedia to do good in our communities and in the world.
This is the goal of Transmedia Commons: making Stories 4 Good
We want to encourage you to view Transmedia Commons as a community space. Use the comments section to ask questions, connect with other transmedia enthusiasts, share your ideas and stories, and help build the Stories 4 Good community.
